When thinking about marketing you think about spending a lot of money but there are social networks that can be utilized for very effective marketing campaigns at little to no cost. It is no wonder that many individuals and small business used this type of tool because of the cost but now it has become main stream for many reasons. Let’s look at a few of the big players in this industry;

Facebook

This social networking site was established six years ago and in August of 2010 has over 500 million registered users. To put this in perspective comparatively to countries it would represent the third largest country in the world behind only China and India. This site originally started with personal users as a means of sharing personal information with friends and family and is now transformed internet usage in how information is distributed and shared. In addition to personal accounts Facebook also allows business accounts that can act as a platform for your products or services. Once a business account is established you can post services, products and discounts to a host of potential customers. While searching for products or services you can gleam additional information about a company or contacts through this network.

Linkedin

This is a website typically for professionals and a method of networking with individuals or companies. Of the Fortune 500 companies 499 have profiles on Linkedin many at the director level, even Hoovers the powerful business database has links to profiles in corporate listings. Individuals with over 20 connections are thirty-four times more likely to be approached for a job than people with less than five. When interviewing with a company and you have a contact name this is a great research tool to find out more about the individual like hobbies and sports.

Twitter

Like Facebook Twitter can be used for personal information but it can also be a media for businesses to keep there clients updated with information, release of new products and services and company news. Twitter boasts about 190 million visitors a month and about 6 million tweets per day in messages not containing more that 140 characters. When setting up your account you can select “Private” or “Public” based on your requirements. It is important to note that Twitter COO Dick Costolo stated “we will not allow third parties to inject ads into the stream” when deciding on ways to use this media platform.

When choosing a social media website to launch your marketing material it is best to review and use more than one site because there are unique differences between them. Beyond just posting information, there are other aspects like linking blogs to tweets, optimizing your profile in search engines and even increasing your credibility by being linked to other credible sites.

Niche marketing has since become a popular source for many internet marketers and entrepreneurs. Finding these niches can feel like searching for buried treasure. The search however is only half the battle.

Finding A Worthy Niche

You might be like us and search for months! Others tend to get lucky and hit it out of the park first try. Well at least with the idea portion of it. You need to find a niche market with a decent volume of traffic and little to no sizable competition. Sounds easy? Well for some it might be.

What do you want to do with your niche? Well sell them something I hope right? You need to see if this niche is even buying something before you go out there and market to it.

Wouldn’t you hate to find the perfect niche yet a far from perfect product for them?

This is why I always start on amazon.com weird huh? But Amazon is the ultimate niche finder. You can see what is selling and to whom. Best yet it breaks everything down into categories (niches) and even micro niches.

So go check that out. Browse the books or whatever see what’s a “bestseller” and whats a flop. What niches are hot and which are not.

That’s Just The Start

Now we’ve got a list of 5 to 10 niches that we could see ourselves working in and making a full-time living doing it. It’s time to put it to the test. For this the Google Keyword Tool Is awesome. Type in your niche and let it run. For here you’ll see if you have a worthy niche or not.

The Rule of 25

This is just a guideline We’ve setup for us. Let me explain… We simply don’t get involved in a niche if there are less than 2500 searches per month and if the competition bar is greater than 25%. Slim pickings huh?

Now that’s not to say you can’t make money with a niche that only receives 500 searches per month. You can! However following the rule of 25 helps make your success in niche marketing that much easier.

Throw out any notions you’ve had about being indexed in Google. If you spend endless nights wondering why your posts or pages aren’t getting indexed worry no longer.

Google knows they’re there however may have put them into what’s known as the supplemental index.

What’s that? It’s an index of thousands of sites or pages that aren’t the “authority” on that keyword. What am I talking about? Let’s look at an example.

Search the term “ice cream”. Google is showing us results 1-10 of 96.4 million! That’s crazy that there is 96.4 million pages trying to rank for that keyword. However not all are even in the results. If you tried to go to the last page you would never even make it to the millions because Google only shows around 600-800 results for each keyword so really only the top 797 for the term “ice cream” are even in the main index. The rest fall into the supplemental index.

How Do I Know If i’m in The Supplemental Index?

That’s easy just enter this command in your google search

site:www.yoursite.com *** -sljktf

Now compare that to how many pages you DO have in the main index

Site:www.yoursite.com

What’s the ratio? Is it more than half?

How Do I Get Out of The Supplemental Index?

I can’t take credit for this analogy but it does the answer great justice.

Imagine I’m speaking to you along with 1,000’s of others in a large room. I ask the question. “what’s a wall?” You point to the wall to your right, the person next to you points to the left, and still another points behind you. If I didn’t know better I’d be confused because everyone pointed to different places how am I to know which wall is the one true “wall.” But I ask the next question, “What’s a ceiling?” Everyone points up.

Google works like this, when I say “what’s ice cream?” it’s going to know what ice cream is by how many people are pointing (linking) to it.

Granted there are a ton of other aspects that go into search engine optimization, however when it comes to getting out of the supplemental index you need links.

Every blogger, internet marketer, and web master wants unique content that not only builds their brand and their backlinks, they want content that sticks. An article that has thousands of eyes look it over daily driving traffic to their pages.

Below I’ve complied 3 easy steps you can do to improve your writing for humans and for search engines.

Break Up Your Content Using Headlines

An example of this is right above the following sentence. Rarely do people read an entire article. They’re looking for a quick solution and wanting it now. Breaking your content up into headlines makes is easily searchable.

From a search engine standpoint Google and the like eat headlines up as long as they’re done right. Using long tail keywords as a headline is a sure fire way to get the attention of google. For example on my flight training website MzeroA.com I might choose a headline like “What do I need to get started learning to fly?” This is a long tail keyword it’s a phrase as compared to just “learning to fly.” So try and incorporate long tail keywords in your headlines.

Use Links Effectively

To many links is a turn off and a mechanical google bust. Try and link to relevant content that’s valuable for your readers. A good rule of thumb is to have a hyperlink every 120 words. This helps you avoid looking like a spammer in the eyes of your readers and search engines.

Create A List

This post is an example of a list. “ 3 Ways to Write Content That Sticks” or “5 Common Student Pilot Errors” List’s are great ways to get content out there and in a uniformed manner. They are easily scannable and often bring up ideas that reader was not even thinking of.

Think of a good list you could create in your niche. Add some keyword rich long tail phrases, and then add some relevant links. Not only will your readers and the search engines enjoy it but you’ll have content that sticks.
